Just got the news -- Hubby's nephew and his wife over in England will be having a little boy! This pleases me no end: a girl on this side of the briney, and a boy on that side. Talk about your Balance of Life stuff and all.
Now to search through Ravelry for just the right pattern.... or maybe I'll use what I learned in EZ's book Knitting without Tears and design my own.
"Uh, little help here?" implores the platypus.

Discovery
Knitting for babies takes a lot less yarn, lol! I wanted something lightweight this time around, for the hot Texas summers, so a little wrap in 100% organic undyed cotton from Knit Picks fit the bill perfectly. It comes in four natural colors, Toffee, Ginger, Malted Milk, and Marshmallow, and I used all of them, with Toffee being the main color.
Newborn (0-3 months) size, sport weight yarn, pattern by The Fiber Gypsy called Quickie (5-hour) Baby Sweater.
There's a thread on Ravelry about the wrong side of stranded projects and how they are a thing of beauty unto themselves. Here's the inside of the other baby sweater:
Pretty nifty, if I say so myself.
Spooky, Owner of all humans in her house, was singularly unimpressed with my efforts, however.
She was very toasty to the touch.

Finished, In Progress & Hanging In There
We're back from a fun day at the Oklahoma Renaissance Faire in Muskogee, and as I promised, I took pics of my knitting stuff.
Sweater for my not-yet-born niece Hailey, appr size 6-9 months. She's due to make her world entrance next month, so this will be a "let's grow into it, shall we?" sweater.
Bus Buddy socks - hopefully she'll be riding on Monday and I'll be able to give them to her then.
Progress has been made
I've actually finished the very first baby sweater in my knitting career. I'm rather pleased with it, as the modifications I made and design pattern I put together came out beautifully. Pics tomorrow or Sunday.
The Bus Buddy Socks are finished, blocked and dried. Pics later.
I've completed 11 pattern repeats on the Classic Lines Cardigan. The yarn is so SO soft and adorable. I'm loving this.
Again, pics later. (sorry, it's late and the daylight is gone - later, later will be better)

Not going so well
le sigh. I've been swatching for the Classic Lines Cardigan and I'm having problems getting gauge. The top swatch is on size 5 needles, and the bottom on size 4s. Neither is quite right. I think I'll need to try with size 6, just to make sure.
Edit: I'm hitting all around gauge (25 stitches/4") with size 3s (24 stitches/4") and size 2s (26 stitches/4"). I'll probably use the 2s and be very aware to knit relaxed and easy.
I'm very happy with the color combination, and the yarn is scrumptiously soft.
