Back among the land of the living

My cold is on the run, and I feel much better. I've even gotten some knitting done, although from the lack of pictures you would rightly be suspicious of any activity in that area.

Hubby has started redecorating the second story landing. He's ripped up half of the carpeting and painted one wall. After we had seen an HGTV show about using molding strips to create the look of a panels on a flat door, he sanded the closet door, applied molding rectangles to the top and bottom sections, and then painted the whole thing white. It looks great. He's planning on putting snap together wood flooring on the landing, and then he'll run that into both the kid's bedrooms when funds allow.

I've been sick since Wednesday, haven't even had the oomph to pick up the needles for two whole days. And tonight's not looking any better. I think I hear my bed calling me.

Front is done now, and I am pleased. Basted the front to the back and tried it on (sans sleeves, which are still to be knitted), and the blessed thing fits! Still no pics, sorry. :(

I believe I'll soak and block the two pieces, in preparation for seaming the shoulders, which is the next step before knitting the linen stitch plackets and attaching them to the collar.

Cinnabar Pullover continues

I reached the armholes on both the front and back. Since there the pattern diverges, I put the front on its own cable, and finished the back. I'll try to take a pic of it tomorrow or the next day -- it's too dark now to get a good shot of it.

It's coming along nicely. Now if only I could get the lighting right on these pics. Grrr. Pretty much the same pic, but the color would be somewhere between the two. Over 12" now.

Progress

Much progress has been made on the Cinnabar Pullover for myself. I'm about 10 inches along now, and I'm already back into the increases after the waist decreases. Straight knitting then up to the armholes.

Avast!

Hubby likes his Pirate Hat, and that makes me happy. Woot! Bonus points to me that it actually fit first time, and is snug enough that it won't come off by accident, even when he scrabbles under cars to work on them.

I think that the weaving technique I used (learned from the Philosopher's Wool site, which I love, by the way) might be better suited to garments that have little need to stretch. Perhaps with this hat I should have floated all the color changes, instead of weaving them in: the skulls are a bit distorted when being worn, and not so much when just being admired in the hand. Ah well, it was a fun fun knit, and I enjoyed it.

Ooo Arrr, Matey!

Hubby is always very supportive of my knitting projects; he'll take time to look at what I'm doing, comment on colors, patterns, stitches, but has not yet shown any desire for me to actually knit him anything. That's changed. This last weekend Hubby asked me for a ski cap, because the cold Oklahoma winter winds, you know, the ones that come sweeping down the plains, make his ears ache. Joy! I could now knit him something and know that he would like it. (oh, that "joy" wasn't that his ears ache, but that I could justify starting another project before the others were done. LOL)


I've always wanted to try the They Call Them Pirates hat and now was my chance. (I've done colorwork before, it's not new to me, although it's been awhile.) Hubby likes skulls, but since he originally asked for a plain hat, I altered the pattern a bit and only did the first repeat of skulls. Didn't want to overdose him on piratey goodness. I started this Sunday, during the Superbowl, and will finish it tonight; only need to do the lining bit and it's done.







I had made a bit of progress on the Cinnabar Pullover before being sidetracked by Pirate Skulls, and now I'm into the body of the sweater.

That's about 3 1/4 inches of linen stitch banding.
